The origin of the Russell Group dates back to 1994 when a group of 17 universities would meet in a hotel of its namesake in London to convey their shared interest to the government. Over the years, various universities joined in, and the group was declared official in 2007.

 

There are a total of 24 universities in the Russell group. While the Russell Group is a recent body formed in 2007, its member universities have histories from 50 years to 1,000. All are public universities, with fees and funding regulated by the UK Government. The universities within the Russell group are ranked highly in the world and received world rankings like the QS, Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, & Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). Three out of the top 10 ranking universities in the world are of Russell Group.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Every university in the Rusell group has its eligibility criteria based on the program level & area, although there are no specifically different entry requirements. Some of the parameters may include previous qualifications, grades, eligibility test scores, work experience, etc.
  • You need to have a good command of your English language. Both your university and your visa application will require you to fulfill a proficiency criterion for entering the country.
