Student Visa Requirement for Australia

Visa approval is considered the stepping stone towards a study abroad dream. If you are planning to study in Australia, make sure to have your visa in place beforehand to avoid end-moment hassles.

As an international student pursuing a course in Australia, one would need a subclass 500 visa, which comprises subclasses 571-576. It allows you to stay up and work a minimum of 40 hours per fortnight during term time and unlimited hours during study breaks for five years in line with your study course.

Australian Visa Requirements

The government has specified some visa eligibility requirements for the applicants. For this, one must have the following documents at hand before applying for an Australian visa.

  • Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE): It’s a document issued by your chosen university indicating your enrollment in a particular course. You will receive your CoE once you confirm your acceptance from the university and pay the deposit amount. You will be required to include a copy of CoE in your visa application as proof that you have been accepted in the declared course by the university.
  • English proficiency: If you are not a native English speaker, you will be required to show proof of your English Proficiency skills through a standardized exam such as IELTS, TOEFL, PTE Academic to get admission to Australian universities.
  • Academic requirements: Proof of your academic ability that makes you eligible for the chosen course in Australia.
  • Proof of sufficient funds: You will be required to show proof of your funds indicating that you have enough money to support your program tuition fees, as well as living costs.
  • Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE): The applicants planning to study a full-time course are required to present a statement confirming their intention to study in Australia and leave the country once their course finishes.
  • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC): OSHC covers you with medical care & emergencies while studying in Australia. You must have your OSHC done for the duration of your stay in Australia and submit it as proof of your insurance in your visa application.
  • Health Checkups: You will be required to pass some Medical tests & may need to show proof of certain vaccinations that the country outlined. Document those medical records and keep them up to date before applying for a visa.
  • Character Requirements: To authenticate good character & conduct of the applicant.
  • Other documents: A valid passport, recent passport size colored photographs, Details of previous Visa Refusals (if any)

Student Visa fees for Australia:

The Australian visa processing fees cost around AUD 630, and an additional AUD 470 is applicable if 18 and above and AUD 155 if under 18.

When to apply for Visa for Australia

The usual processing time for the student visa in Australia is 4-8 weeks from the date of application. But it’s best to start with the visa application process as soon as you receive the acceptance letter from the university where you want to study. It will leave you with sufficient time for the visa to get accepted and re-applying if your visa gets rejected.

The application process may get rejected or delayed if you do not submit all the necessary documents correctly, as they go through a strict verification process. Do not try to share any false or misleading information in your application. If you do, your application may get rejected, or you will get blocked from getting a visa.
